There are7 organizations so far that we had visited since this summer vacation when our class began in July. I'm glad that I chose this class, for it has given me the opportunity to visited organizations that I would have not been able to know. I had been working in an international trading company for over 10 years before accidentally stepped into the education industry. Though teaching has been great so far, yet I strongly feel that I need to step out of the teachers' circle and to know something that I have few chance to know. This graduate program has provided something I need.
Back in July when I first stepped in 18 degree. Honestly I had not expected much from the trip. Not until we talked with manger Zhang did we started to understand the sincerity and enthusiasm that their founder had. They treated employees respectfully. Employees were allowed to transfer from one department to another to have the opportunity to acquire skills needed in each department and in the mean time to have a more holistic idea of their company and thus to be able to have the awareness that their founder want them to have. Keeping good relationship with community is the first awareness their founder wanted them to have. The second one is.. “ giving something back to the community you are from and helping the young generation while we can.” They set a very good example for organizations to follow.
In August we paid a short visit to Chinese Culture University in Taipei. There was a storm looming that evening. During the short tour guiding, all our classmates were so dumb founded to find that there should be a school so well organized in management, curriculum, support, logistic and schedule. Everything were highly structured, including teacher and student support system. They even implemented the idea of "mobile office". A desk and a cabinet were ***gned to an office worker when he or she checked in. phone line and computer were ***gned at the same time. Employees were allowed to work wherever she liked, even in Starbucks, if only she could be reached by phone. This is a dream work for many people.
On October3, we visited 霹靂布袋戲
Taiwanese hand puppet show was very popular back into the sixties, it had the highest broadcast popularity for years. It is fair to say that a fair part of the demographic of the generation are still hand puppet show fans. I was very surprised to find out that Pili multimedia international company, founded by the second generation of the TV hand puppet show founder黃俊雄 , is now a listed company at over-the-counter market. From the presentation I have learned that they have recruited some retired executive managers to help them do the restructuring of their management system. I believe that is the main reason why they emerged from a mere puppet show entertainment group into an OTC company. The energy and potentiality of the retired demographic is still largely untapped. How do we make good use of this untapped resource will be the main issue of the future.
